My experience as an artist, designer, and human being has always been shaped by the outdoor environment. My earliest memories of making come from sitting in the woods while my brother played baseball, where I began “weaving” together pine needles, leaves, and grasses. This sense of play and fascination with the organic world have followed me - from the shell-covered beaches of Pensacola, Florida, to the mountains of Acadia National Park and to the vibrant gardens of North Carolina. The natural world offers a space to unwind and escape the built environment. Small, textural moments in sepias, greens, and blues draw my eye - swaying watergrass translated into grasscloth wallpaper, the softness of moss reimagined as custom-dyed carpet, or blooming fungi inspiring laser-engraved wooden wall hangings. Here, I explore how to translate the textures of nature into textiles.
