Through Bark & Moss explores one of the most important elements of nature itself - trees. Helping us see the forest through the trees, I studied branches, roots, bark, woodgrain, and leaves via pen drawing and watercolor to create abstracted surfaces. I then brought these drawings and painting into the digital world and turned into forms of surface pattern. Patterns are then laser engraved and cut back into wood directly. Several rounds of embellishment - wood stain, forest floor carpet, basket material, and wooden beads - add depth and detail to the flat surface.
I then assemble these layers together to create a wooden triptych, bringing the shaded energy of the forest onto the wall.
